memories

I watched a simple and extrovert one year old kid and found that he memorizes by two methods:

1. Copying
2. Associating

That was interesting because it was raw and free from any prejudice.

How about adults? Adults cover up so much that even a simple act of copying or associating seems complex.

Am I missing some other method that we use to memorize?

you stupid

why do you crave for it?
did you forget that it didn't join you on your arrival,
and when you leave, it won't go along with you?
stupid, why do you crave for companionship?

look at the lonely corner in the room,
it is its fate that it always comes alive in the company of those walls.
it is the fate of swans that they long for it.
it is the fate of a song that it dwells on music.

accept it, fool and live on till you get the final company of death...

death in reality

People don't die in reality, they die in our minds.

Last night I could see death and the dead. The mind accepted it. But again the same mind rejected it too. Both these acts were real and unreal. There is nothing real or unreal including life and death.

Wake up mind and go to sleep now!

Listen

Listening to myself could be so tough sometimes. The clutter and the noise of the outside world distracts me and then it causes the constipated inner voice...tch tch tch, you poor unkown inner soul. ;)

bleeding...

I watch myself bleeding.
It makes me go numb.
When it threatens to kill me, I will lick it to health.

I watch myself dancing in the rain.
It makes me go dumb.
When it threatens to keep me alive, I will set on fire.

The arm-chair never stops rocking.
The merry-go-round rolls on.
I go round and round...tireless.

Dor

A wonderful journey into honesty and romance of life. Nagesh is becoming better and better...

The boundary between vulgar and subtle could be so beautiful, I never knew!

A master-piece!

Thanks a lot for suggesting this movie (u know who)!

:)

my u turn

The home down the U turn kept waiting for me. I forgot to take the U turn.
The thump of the bike and the rain in my eyes kept me going forever...

her pain and her smiles

she suffers but she smiles. times are hurting her but she remains untouched. she will remain so. she will smile forever!

the restless within

that snake churns within.
wakes up and slithers.
but the sleep, the never ending slumber pulls it down.
eye-lids drop dead.
someday the restless, the volcano and the deep boiling one will wake up to destroy itself...

Bias and context complicates the matter

Machines do things without a bias. They just do it.

Humans do things within a context under a bias. They can't do things for the sake of doing.

Can we teach machines to be biased?

Worry and thought

The only difference between worrying and thinking is that between a circle and a straight line.

Anusuya amma

The convulsing fat lady suffering from multiple organ failure was lying on the bed next to mine. So many medical apparatus kept working on her. The senior doctors always gave those extra pauses to her. And the junior ones always surrounded her because she was the source of live learning.

Every time the monitor raised alarm, the nurses kept her from sinking by slapping her delicately and waking her loudly. And she kept coming back to life from the dead. The fight between the will and the darkness was so clear. A very thin line separates life and death but your will and little outside help keeps you alive. The balancing act of Anusuya amma continued...

Desires

I always feel that we humans have a tendency to escape, laze and remain detached. It comes so naturally to us. But this centrifugal force is so destructive: if you indulge in this state of mind you don't exist!

Now what is the counter force? Nature has provided us with a tool which keeps you illusioned and smiling. You continue to believe that it is all real. And that tool is Desire. You taste it once in any form and you ask for more. It keeps you hooked to this thing called life. And the strongest of all the desires is sex!

Sankhya

Bottomline of Sankhya philosophy:

"Borrow and enjoy this materialistic world. Borrow more and indulge more in your enjoyments. After all you don't pay back the borrowed money once you are dead."

What does it mean? Does it promote one to become a materialistic person? No, actually the underlying message is "Be happy and don't cling to materials or anything because everything is mortal including the money, materials and you."

plus minus zero

There is so much pain and sorrow around. But then there is so much joy too. There is death and then there is life. These two opposite forces create this mortal conscious world.

Isn't it interesting that finally these two individual forces sum to nothingness - zero?

I am nothing and I "live" in this void world - scary!

Let us move on, mind!

Ants

I feel all the ants are not community creatures. Why? Because I always see these two ants roaming in my toilet. They are so independent and individuals unlike other ants! They just roam around sipping on "sugar" and dont carry it home! :)

Did you know that?

Disclosing you salary details to anybody is "unethical".
Then why does HR (from well reputed companies too) ask for your last months salary slip's copy when you are planning to join their company?
I took panga and asked this question to one of these pious company's HR director. His response:
1. Although we always pay you based on our company standards we want to understand the market trends!

2. We want to make sure that you are a genuine employee!

3. Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man (read "I want to confuse you").

ha ha ha ha

Ethics and software industry

I work in software industry. Since the day one I was brainwashed with the term "ethics". You know why? Read on:

1. A candidate is looking for a change. Even after his final interview round and a great "We like you" statement the company is "working" on the final offer letter. A week and then 10 days go past, they are still working on it.
Excuses: "VP's permission is required. The HR team is out on a team building exercise. blah blah". Real reason: They are just buying time to find "better" candidates.

During this period the candidate can't choose a company from one of the offers: eternally optimist. Moreover, the companies always give this impression that offer selection is "unethical".

Now the candidate looses patience and asks for a final date. The company counters: "Do you have other offers in hand?". Now if you say Yes then they will declare you "unethical" and if you say No they will smile and make you wait for some more golden period.

Now if somehow you have a stronger arm and you want them to wait then you get feedbacks like "not upfront". You are supposed to get back to them in 4 hours! ha ha ha.

why people don't quit

  • People don't quit because Newton's first law is applicable on humans too! ;)

How does this law work:
  • trying to achieve a "settled" life style.
  • too much of team work; when u r trying to explore new paths it is the individual who takes the first step, people follow and then the team follows. Team work is for lower worker class: Leaders are always individuals.
  • ego boosting/appeasing environment.
  • having achieved the "getting things done" attitude -> superficial knowledge -> lack of confidence follows.
  • Getting induced and totally absorbed with new thought process -> ur mass appeal is lost.

Exploring nature

Feynman says: "Nature is like a huge infinite board of chess. Science and human mind tries to analyse one small part of this board and tries to extrapolate to the big picture".

What does it mean? It means we are trying to "determine" the solution of a big probabilistic problem. Will it ever work?

The problem space here has fuzzy boundary and mathematics is gradually spanning with distinct boundaries trying to cover the whole space. One section of mathematics breaks and another evolves ever creating new aspects. Is it time to develop new mathematics which "evolves" with the extrapolation of the small section of the chess game?

time pass

Self indulgence is an ultimate time pass and highly addictive. Visit www.orkut.com or www.hi5.com. :))

Observer

It is very interesting to watch the mind playing all sorts of tricks on you and this time you love to become a victim...

Annotations vs XML

I wonder why people hate XML and trying to eradicate it with hacks like annotations and naming conventions.
All those approaches trying to challenge XML need recompilation of the code. Is it that people are ready for recompilation now? They used to hate it a few years ago.
Sometimes I feel that all the "new" technologies/concepts are nothing but propaganda gimmicks. People suddenly start playing opposite tunes. Why? Because some kool new thing is in the market and the so called big brains are supporting it? It is all about hype-oriented programming, dude!

packages and layers

Should high level packages represent layers of a system? The import list of a class belonging to a layer can be used to sanity check the class' calls to other layers. Obviously the only point to remember while designing or programming multi-layered system is to restrict calls amongst layers.
